Ed Jimenez is the operations officer for the hospitals and programs operated under Shands at theUniversity of Florida, UF’s flagship hospital and the state’s leading health care referral organization. Patients come to Shands at UF inGainesville from all 67 Florida counties and from throughout the region, nation and a dozen countries each year. Shands at UF has a $1.1 billion budget and employees over 7,500 people.
Jimenez collaborates with UF&Shands health system leaders to provide accessible health care services for patients; develop hospital policy development and strategic planning; manage operational expense and revenue budgets; implement resource-utilization initiatives; lead quality improvement initiatives; and champion a culture of service and operational excellence. TheNew Jerseynative has an extensive career in hospital administration, during which he has earned an outstanding reputation for interpersonal communication, team-building and business strategy development and implementation. His successful track record also includes business development, physician recruitment and faculty practice administration.
From 2005 to 2010, he served as System Vice President for Saint Joseph’s Health Care System, a 900-bed medical center in northernNew Jersey. There, he also served as president of seven for-profit, joint venture LLCs; led a physician office- based EHR strategy; improved outpatient volume by 105 percent, launched 12 new programs, successfully recruited 160 new physicians to voluntary staff; and oversaw construction of three ambulatory care facilities.
Jimenez holds professional membership in the American College of Health Care Executives and the Medical Group Management Association. He holds an MBA from the Zicklin School of Business at Baruch College/Mount Sinai School of Medicine inNew York, and a BA in Politics from Brandeis University.
