A career in HealthCare Finance, serving as the Chief Financial Officer of both Community Hospitals and Academic Medical Centers. Experience focused on turn-arounds, restructuring through merger and acquisition activities and improving operational performance. Consistently worked to improve the consistency and timeliness of financial information maximizing the System’s inherent strengths to improve: contracting leverage, purchasing power, access to capital and balance sheet reserves. Worked to maintain and enhance relationships with creditors and development of staff.
Areas of responsibilities/focus: finance and accounting, internal audit, third-party reimbursement, tax preparation and filing, financial planning (including budgeting, strategic financial planning and decision support), managed care risk-based business & contracting, revenue cycle activities (including admitting, accounts receivable and medical records), supply chain (including purchasing and warehouse), transaction activities (including merger, acquisition, & divestiture), treasury functions and debt management.
A problem solver by nature. Twice worked on acquisitions more than doubling the organizations net worth and three times worked on major financings that facilitated major bed expansion projects (valued at $325-450M each). Developed academic support agreements, established defined board designated funds to align cash with the organizations’ stated objectives, enhanced forecasts to set major financial/strategic performance targets, and when necessary, divested the organization of under-performing or non-performing assets to improve organizational performance or re-structure the balance sheet.
