Afrina Ahmed

Afrina Ahmed was born in Bangladesh and raised in Gainesville, Florida. She graduated from the University of Florida in May of 2017 with a Bachelor of Health Science degree with a concentration in Public Health. Afrina’s passion for healthcare administration stemmed from her family’s strong background in healthcare and business. Her past internship experiences and philanthropic work have strengthened her decision to pursue a Master of Health Administration at her alma mater. Afrina looks forward to further enhancing her healthcare knowledge and business operations experience so that one day she can ensure health care services are provided in a caring and value oriented setting. In her free time, Afrina enjoys spending time with her family and friends, following fashion trends, and traveling.

Brooke Boylan

Brooke Boylan was born in Indianapolis, Indiana and raised Tampa, Florida. She graduated from the University of Florida in 2017 with a Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration and a minor in Family, Youth and Community Sciences. Brooke developed a passion for the healthcare through personal and family experiences. She is most interested in improving communication, increasing patients value and satisfaction, reducing healthcare cost, as well as having greater transparency within the healthcare industry. Her goal is to strive as a leader in a hospital setting  in the healthcare industry. On her down time she enjoys hiking, traveling, and hanging out with family and friends.

Rachel Chapman

Rachel Chapman was born and raised in Tampa, Florida. She graduated from the University of Florida in 2017 with a Bachelor of Science in Health Science and a minor in Business Administration. Rachel’s past experiences at Shands Hospital fueled her passion for the health care industry. She is particularly interested in quality and access to health care as well as efficiency and communication among health care professionals. Rachel currently serves as the President of Florida Blue Key. In her spare time, she enjoys traveling and spending time with her friends.

Courtney Coakes

Courtney Coakes, from West Lafayette, Indiana, graduated from the University of Florida in 2017 with a Bachelor of Science in Health Education. Her passion for healthcare developed while working as a Certified Nursing Assistant in high school. Her health education background and desire to further develop management skills in the healthcare field, led her to pursue a Master of Health Administration. Courtney is excited to begin the next step in her education journey. Kimiya Fakhar

Kim Fakhar was born and raised in Tampa, FL. She received her Bachelor of Science in Health Sciences, with a Biological concentration from the University of South Florida. Darby Frankfurth

Darby Frankfurth, from Tampa, Florida, graduated from Florida Southern College with a Bachelor of Science in Healthcare Administration and a minor in Business Administration. Her passion for improving the quality and efficiency of care for patients has led her to pursue a Master’s degree in Health Administration. Darby is excited to continue her education at The University of Florida and to gain new knowledge and experiences to use in the future of the healthcare industry. Karolina Golanka

Karolina, originally from Poland, relocated to Pensacola, Florida at the age of 8. She graduated Cum Laude from the University of Florida in 2017 with a Bachelor of Science in Health Sciences and a minor in Health Disparities in Society. Personal experiences instilled a deep passion in healthcare early on in Karolina’s life, as well as exploring her interests through many healthcare administrative internship experiences. She is an aspiring healthcare leader who is eager to make a difference in the industry, and is particularly interested in the possibilities of telehealth for improving access to care while lowering overall costs. Karolina loves to spend time with her friends, practice meditation, and play tennis.

Serena Hall

Serena Hall was born in Fairfax, Virginia, and raised in Lake Wales, Florida. She received her Bachelor of Health Science degree with a focus in Public Health from the University of Florida in 2017. Her involvement in the Neuromedicine Interdisciplinary Clinical and Academic Program, the American Red Cross, and North Florida Regional Medical Center as a volunteer has led her to pursue a Master of Health Administration. Serena has a special interest in reducing variation amongst healthcare teams and implementing quality initiatives to transform the culture of hospitals. She hopes to make an impact in the healthcare realm as a successful hospital administrator. During Serena’s spare time, she enjoys traveling, finding new eateries, and hiking.

Emily Harvey

Emily Harvey was born and raised in Jacksonville, Florida. She completed her undergraduate degree in Business Management at the University of Florida in 2017. Her involvement with Dance Marathon at the University of Florida as well as her past internship and volunteer experience at Baptist Health and American Cancer Society greatly influenced her  decision to pursue a career in Health Administration. She looks forward to applying the business and managerial skills she has acquired during her undergraduate time at UF to a healthcare setting. Andy Irwin

Andy Irwin, from Duluth, Georgia, graduated in May of 2017 from the University of Georgia with a Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, a minor in Public Health, and a certificate in Business Professionalism. Scientific research opportunities, coursework, and service involvements throughout his undergraduate career helped Andy develop a strong interest in the healthcare industry. A Master of Health Administration degree reflects a true culmination of his passions, and seemed a perfect next step in his education. Inspired by his own pediatrician, Andy has always possessed a deep interest in children’s health. He aspires to one day manage and direct his own pediatric healthcare facility. In his free time, he loves adventuring, playing and watching soccer, and spending way too much money on Escape Room games.

Shwana Jean-Gilles

Shwana Jean-Gilles was born in Limbe, Haiti and raised in Pompano Beach, Florida. She graduated from the University of Florida in Spring 2016 with a Bachelor of Health Science with a Minor in Public Health. Her interest in health administration stems from her prior work experience as a Licensed Practical Nurse. She is passionate about becoming an exceptional leader in the geriatric healthcare industry, improving the quality of care of not only the patient’s but staff as well. Outside of classes and school, Shwana enjoys long walks on the beach, reading fictional books and quality time with family and friends.

Nyasia Jenkins

Nyasia Jenkins, from Utica, New York, graduated from Florida Gulf Coast University with a Bachelor of Health Science and a concentration in Health Services Administration. Various health complications and inadequate quality of care faced by family members were catalysts to Nyasia’s vision and passion to making a difference in the health care profession. Nyasia’s dedication and interest in the healthcare field continued to develop while interning with Outpatient Lab Services of the Lee Health System. As a future healthcare administrator, Nyasia is dedicated to ensuring efficiency within healthcare facilities, providing quality care, and advocating for the needs of patients and healthcare professionals. In her spare time, you can find Nyasia actively participating in Crossfit, volunteering, and traveling.

Susan Johns

Susan Johns was born in Charlotte, North Carolina and was raised in Gainesville, Florida. She graduated from the College of William and Mary with a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and a minor in Public Health and earned her Juris Doctor at the University of Florida Levin College of Law. She practiced law in Orlando in the commercial litigation department of a national law firm. Personal experiences informed her decision to pursue a career in healthcare. As a childhood leukemia survivor who also lost her father to cancer while she was in middle school, she is passionate about ensuring patients have access to healthcare. In her free time, Susan enjoys watching House Hunters marathons and tubing down the Ichetucknee.

Brendon Jonassaint

BJ, from Okeechobee, Florida, was born on the campus of University of Florida at UF Health Shands Hospital. He graduated from the University of Florida in 2017 with a Bachelor of Health Science with a specialization in Public Health. Discovering his passion for healthcare while volunteering and interning at UF Health, he was inspired to continue his education and pursue his Master of Health Administration. BJ’s interests lie in improving access to healthcare, quality of healthcare, and working with the Government to improve healthcare policy. Kathryn Kastner

Born and raised in Tampa, Florida, Kathryn is a proud two-time Gator. She graduated from the University of Florida in April of 2017. Her undergraduate experience consisted of a Bachelor of Health Science accompanied by a concentration in Public Health and a minor in Business Administration. Kathryn’s exposure to community health needs sparked a passion for her pursuit of a Masters in Health Administration in order to make an impact in how healthcare is delivered across all sectors of a population. Amanda Marty-Torres

Amanda Marty-Torres was born and raised in Orlando, Florida. She graduated from the University of Florida in May of 2017 with a Bachelor of Health Science and a minor in Business Administration. Through personal experiences with the healthcare field as an undergrad, the interest of administration was sparked and led her to pursue opportunities as a volunteer to gain more insight into the industry she hoped to one day become a part of. To increase her knowledge on the ever-changing field of healthcare as well as develop the necessary leadership skills needed to excel in the area, she is pursuing the Masters in Health Administration. Amanda’s main interests lay in the financial and operational side of healthcare and she hopes to one day leave an impact on the industry by implementing cost effective measures to decrease hospital expenses while increasing patient access to care. When she is not spending her time in the Health Science Center library, she enjoys attending Gator games as well as spending time with family and friends.

Alyssa Milonas

Alyssa Milonas was born and raised in Sarasota, Florida. In May 2017, she graduated from the University of Florida with a Bachelor of Science in management and a minor in innovation. Her family experiences have driven her to pursue her master’s degree in health administration. During her undergraduate career she served on the board of various health clubs, like Gators for the Children’s Heart Foundation and the Health Professions College Council. She is both eager and excited to continue her education in the swamp, and feels confident that what she learns in the MHA program will help her make a difference in healthcare. Derrick Naegler

Derrick Naegler, from Springfield, Missouri, graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Business Management from the Florida State University in 2016, where he was a member of the Florida State University Marching Chiefs. Growing up in a family of healthcare professionals, Derrick was raised with the values that accompany compassionate patient care, the development of meaningful connections, and a dedication to the service of others. After volunteering at a Tallahassee hospital, Derrick discovered a great interest in the operational, financial, legal, and strategic facets of healthcare. These values and interests have led Derrick to the MHA program at UF, where he aims to further his knowledge of the healthcare industry and gain the tools to truly make a difference in the patient experience. Valerie Newman

Valerie Newman was born and raised in Cooper City, Florida. In May 2017, she received a Bachelor of Science in Health Services Administration from the University of Central Florida. Aislinn Skuropat

Aislinn Skuropat was born and raised in Pensacola, Florida. She graduated from Auburn University in 2017 where she earned a Bachelor of Science in Economics and a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration in Finance. Her passion for healthcare began as a child when her brother was diagnosed with cancer (then age 6, now 24). In awe of the doctors’ talents and nurses’ compassion she knew working in a hospital would be in her future which led her to pursue a Masters degree in Healthcare Administration. With a heavy analytical background she hopes to pursue a career in healthcare finance leading to the appointment of hospital CFO with an eventual transition to CEO. Aislinn’s current interests in healthcare include effective deployment of capital and hospital mergers and acquisitions. As a strong believer in honesty and integrity she is honored to continue her service on the Student Conduct Committee from Auburn University to The University of Florida. In her free time she can be found enjoying live music, planning her next international adventure, or camping.

Lana Vega

Lana Vega, from Tampa, Florida graduated from the University of Alabama in May 2017 with a bachelor’s degree in Business Management. Her interest in healthcare comes from a strong family background of working in all different aspects of the healthcare system. After an internship experience with SPH Analytics, a population health software and services provider, she decided to further purse a career in Healthcare Administration. She feels passionate that by improving workflows, creating better efficiencies and fostering relationships among physicians, administrators, and patients, there is a transformational positive effect on clinical outcomes and patient satisfaction. By learning more about all attributes of the healthcare field, she hopes to bring change to the industry.
