Promoting inclusion of American Indian and Alaska Native populations in clinical trials

Indigenous populations, including people of American Indian and Alaska Native origin, are underrepresented in clinical trials. Researchers led by Arch Mainous III, Ph.D., a professor in the University of Florida College of Public Health and Health Professions department of health services research, management and policy, collaborated to modify the “trust triangle” model used in clinical trial recruitment and expanded it to a new model called “The Trust Circle.”

UF to use $23.5 million grant to build AI infrastructure to improve critical care

The University of Florida has been awarded $3.6 million of a $23.5 million multicenter grant for a four-year data-generation project that is unprecedented in its scope, aimed at building an infrastructure for artificial intelligence in critical care and advancing artificial intelligence in ways that improve patients’ ability to recover from life-threatening illnesses.

Study charts decline in geriatric medicine certification among family physicians

Despite increasing health care demands from a large aging population, the number of family physicians who have received and maintained certification in geriatric medicine dropped significantly between 1988 and 2019, a new University of Florida College of Public Health and Health Professions study finds. The findings appear in the journal Family Medicine.

UF study finds disparities in cancer genetic testing

UF Health Cancer Center researchers found that Black and Hispanic adults had less knowledge and were less likely to undergo cancer genetic testing than white adults. This study was led by Dr. Young-Rock Hong, Assistant Professor in the Department of Health Services Research, Management and Policy.
