A professor in the department since 1988, Gapenski wrote the definitive textbook on healthcare finance and is the author of a popular American College of Healthcare Executives self-study program in healthcare finance. His books are used nationally and internationally, having been translated into nine languages. Gapenski and his wife Jane have also been generous financial supporters of the college, establishing professorship and scholarship funds in the department.

“When we endow this scholarship, we honor Lou Gapenski,” said David Hammer, master’s in business administration/master’s in health administration ’87, who helped raise money for the fund. “We also continue his devotion to preparing our future colleagues to lead in ways that maintain a sound financial position for our healthcare delivery system.”
