Letter from the UF MHA Program Director – February 2024

Greetings, Colleagues, Friends & Family of UF MHA:

Dr. Keith Benson, UF MHA Program Director

Some celebratory events from Fall 2023!

1. In November, we hosted our first annual Women’s Leadership Symposium with the North Florida Chapter of the American College of Healthcare Executives (ACHE), highlighting the roles of female leaders in healthcare. Keynote speakers included Traci Spray D’Auguste, MBA, MSHA, COO of UF Health Shands, and Amy Yarbrough Landry, PhD, Howard W. Houser Endowed Professor in Health Administration, UAB School of Health Professions. Each shared their expertise and answered questions from students, colleagues, and ACHE members. A brief reception was held following the discussion, generously sponsored by our colleagues at Slack. We look forward to seeing this event grow in the coming years!

2. The UF MHA Case Competition Team advanced to the semi-final round at the 28th National Association of Health Services Executives (NAHSE) Everett V. Fox Student Case Competition in Atlanta last October, proudly representing UF MHA. Our team included students Carla Dominquez-Baez, Captain (’24); Emilee Cato (’24); and Bradejah Parker (’24).

3. Over 70% of the students who applied for Administrative Fellowships earned an offer.  Some of the organizations where Gators will be doing their Administrative Fellowships include the following:

  • Emory Healthcare Finance
  • MD Anderson
  • UF Health Jacksonville
  • SCA Atlanta
  • SCA Greensboro NC
  • University of California Irvine
  • UF Health Shands
  • HCA Ft. Walton Beach

We also had four students secure post-graduation job offers from their internship sites.

We continuously receive updates that make us proud to be a part of the UF MHA family. If you want to share exciting news or be featured, please contact our Marketing Coordinator, Sara Mayo (sara.mayo@phhp.ufl.edu).
