“First Contact”

Topics: Disease transmission by direct and indirect Contact, Contact precautions, transport, model organism: Norovirus, Carbapenem-resistant Enterobacterales (CRE), Lice. 

Learning Objectives: Describe the transmission of organisms through contact, and the precautions required. 

Week 2:

“An Ocean in a Drop”

Topics: Droplet transmission, Droplet precautions, transport, model organism: Influenza, MRSA, Pertussis. 

Learning Objectives: Identify organisms spread by droplet transmission and ways to prevent their spread. 

week 3:

“Air, Air Everywhere”

Topics: Airborne transmission, Airborne precautions, transport, model organism: Measles, Covid, Tuberculosis (TB).

: Apply airborne precautions for organisms spread by the airborne route. 

week 5:

“Agents of Interest”

Topics: Agents of interest, patient risk factors for infection viral Upper Respiratory Infection (URI), adenovirus [conjunctivitis], norovirus and bacteria (e.g., group A streptococcus, non-susceptible S. pneumoniae, other Multidrug-Resistant Organisms (MDROs), and Clostridium difficile).
