Learning Collaborative 5: Understanding, Assessing, and Improving the Environment of Care

    Topics: Distinguish between cleaning and disinfection, discuss high-touch surfaces, discuss proper sequence for room cleaning, and discuss common mistakes made when cleaning. 
    Learning Objectives: List the best practices in cleaning and disinfection.  
  1. Cleaning and Disinfection – Beyond the Basics”
    Date: Wednesday, October 11, 2023
    Time: 1:30 PM EST    
    Topics: Discuss disinfectants.
    Learning Objectives: Discuss types of chemical disinfectants and newer disinfectant technologies. 
  1. “Water Management”
    Date: Wednesday, October 18, 2023
    Time: 1:30 PM EST 
    Topics: Infections associated with water, Water infection control risk assessment. 
    Learning Objectives: Describe the critical elements of a water control program.
  1. “Hazardous Waste”
    Date: Wednesday, October 25, 2023
    Time: 1:30 PM EST   
    Topics: How to properly dispose of hazardous waste to avoid exposures (includes biological and pharmaceutical waste); what goes in the biohazard bag? 
    Learning Objectives: Identify appropriate methods for dealing with biological and pharmaceutical waste. 
  2. “Air Management”
    Date: Wednesday, November 1, 2023
    Time: 1:30 PM EST 
    Topics: Overview of ventilation and issues that can occur with ventilation.
    Learning Objectives: Explain how ventilation works in a healthcare setting. 
  1. “Case Studies in Environmental Infection Control”

    Topics: Animals, environmental sampling, laundry, and bedding. 
    Learning Objectives: Discuss case studies related to environmental infection control.
